Editorial Assistant, The Professional Geographer

In 2010, one of my advisors at KU, Dr. Barney Warf, tapped me to assist with editor duties for the AAG journal The Professional Geographer. Barney served two four-year terms as editor and hired me to help screen manuscripts for style and content, find peer reviewers, and communicate feedback to authors. This job allowed me to engage with a wide-array of literature from every conceivable sub-field of geography, and interact with top scholars from around the globe. I also got an inside view into academic publishing, the editorial and peer-review process. Perhaps the most rewarding aspect of working for the PG was its nature as a journal for applied research, every manuscript I read and paper we published was applicable to real world problems or emerged from fieldwork or on-the-ground research.
