I have taught a wide variety of courses at five colleges in four states, as well as doing educational outreach for audiences ranging from elementary school to retirees. I am a passionate educator, engaging speaker, and innovative curriculum designer. Below are some examples of my work:
Lecturer in Geography
In August of 2024, I accepted a Lecturer position within the Department of Geography at the University of Washington teaching GEOG 272 Geographies of Environmental Justice.

Professor of Geography
For ten years I worked at Red Rocks Community College in Lakewood, Colorado. I wore a number of hats for them, in addition to being a geography professor, I served as chair of the Geography & GIS Department for nine of those years, mentoring adjunct faculty, managing the GIS and Physical Geography Labs, serving on numerous committees, and advising geography majors. I also taught a key course in the Water Quality Management BAS program, having worked as an SME on an NSF grant to develop the curriculum for the innovative new degree pathway in 2014.

Graduate Teaching Assistant
While in residency at KU completing my PhD, I was a graduate teaching assistant for the Department of Geography & Atmospheric Sciences. My advisors rewarded me with fantastic opportunities to teach across the curriculum, everything from lab sections of physical geography and cartography, to leading my own sections of Human Geography and World Regional Geography. I also taught and developed my own curriculum for higher-level courses in Environmental Conservation and Regional Geography of North America. I was also active in the departmental Graduate Student Organization, developing annual Geography Awareness Week activities on campus, and organizing and hosting the AAG Great Plains/Rocky Mountain Regional Meeting (where I led a field trip featuring Bleeding Kansas and Overland Trail sites around Lawrence).

Adjunct Instructor
During the fall semester of 2008, I was hired by JCCC to teach a section of World Regional Geography. I was offered a full-time position for the spring semester and upcoming academic year, but after consulting with my advisors and my family, opted to put all of my efforts into my PhD research at the University of Kansas.

Graduate Teaching Assistant
In 2006 I began teaching at UNO’s Department of Geography and Geology. I was primarily assigned to teaching lab sections of Physical Geography, but occasionally was tapped to fill in for the lecturer, gaining valuable experience in front of larger audiences. But it was here that I discovered my love and passion for teaching thanks to the late, great, Dr. Charles Gildersleeve, himself a champion of geographic education and former urban planner.

Don’t just take my word:
• Blake's lectures are very well made, and his slideshows aptly synthesize information. Still, his teaching is most strongly characterized by his improvization skills. When students interject with questions, Blake can engage them and answer them completely, no matter how obscure or specific they might be. At this point, I'm convinced Blake is some sort of omniscient space deity from the fourth dimension. Blake has answered questions about glyptodonts, urbanization, waste disposal, adverse possession, and more over the semester, sometimes in the same class.
• He made the classroom a great learning space making everything fun and enjoyable to attend class
• very personable , lenient on due dates and understanding
• presenting information in an easily comprehensive manor and encouraging participation.
• He recorded and posted his lectures to D2L for students that were unable to attend that lecture
• Professor Mayberry was very enthusiastic in his classes. It was very rewarding to take this class due to his passion and experience.
• He is a fountain of knowledge
